Abdulwahid Hasyim


Abdulwahid Hashim, Kyai Haji lives in 1914-1953, also called Wahid Hasyim, he is afigure of national independence, was born in Tebuireng, Jombang, East Java. Aftertaking religious instruction of his father Kyai Haji Hasyim Asyari, Tebuireng pesantrenleaders, and a course in Bandung, in 1932 pilgrimage.

After becoming a teacher at the boarding school founded in 1935 Tebuireng andMadrasah Nizamiya, modern religious school where pelejaran given general knowledge, in addition to Arabic, English and Dutch. In 1938 began active inassociations Nahdhatul cleric and a member of board size in 1940.

Abdulwahid Hashim is the chairman and one of the advocates of pembentukanMajelisal Islam al A'la Indonesia. Left Masyumi established as the sole religion of the federation of Islamic associations in Indonesia in 1943, he was elected vice chairman.

After the proclamation of independence, he participated actively establish a newpolitical party Masyumi. At the first Cabinet (19 August 1945-14 November 1945) andthird Syahrir Cabinet (October 1946-July 1947) he served as Minister of State.

After the recognition of sovereignty by the Dutch puhak, he was appointed as Minister of Religious Affairs in a row in the Cabinet Hatta, Natsir and Sukiman. As a minister,he was very instrumental to develop common Islamic religious education. Afterresigning April 1952, he was active in religious and political movement, becamechairman of the Indonesian Muslim League was formed NU, PSII and the like,

After NU out of Masyumi and act as a separate political party, he died in a car accidentin Cimindi, West Java on April 19, 1953.
